The tides are what make Mont Saint-Michel unlike any other landmark in France — and getting them right is the difference between seeing the island ringed by the sea and seeing it stranded on mudflats.
Quick answer
The bay’s range can reach about 14–15 metres. The island is surrounded by water only on strong (spring) tides, around high water. The strongest fall near the March and September equinoxes.
